By Adrienne Warber
Looking for a fun weekend family activity? Consider Balletmore Dance Studio’s performance of “Be Moved,” which will celebrate the art of dance and creative expression through student performance numbers. The show will take place this Saturday, May 13, at 2:00 p.m. at Northview High School’s Max Colley Jr. Performing Arts Center at 4451 Hunsberger Ave NE in Grand Rapids.
This Balletmore show is a great weekend option for all ages. What will you see? You will see talented student dancers performing a mix of classical ballet and contemporary dance set to music from both popular culture and traditional ballet. Dancers will perform numbers from famous works like Swan Lake and Coppelia, as well as original choreographed pieces by Balletmore Artistic Director Melanie Anderson Brossiet and Balletmore staff. Star Wars and Moana fans will find something to enjoy in a couple of the numbers. There is also a special guest artist performance by Grand Valley State University dance major Victoria VanderPlas. She performs a moving piece that mixes classical ballet and contemporary dance, with a hint of flamenco.
Balletmore’s shows are crafted by the artistic vision of studio owner Melanie Anderson Brossiet, and her talented staff. Brossiet, who spent 18 years dancing professionally for companies such as The Washington Ballet, Grand Rapids Ballet and Das Ballett Augsberg, brings a special dancer-focused training that nurtures students’ creative growth at Balletmore. The non-competitive studio offers small class sizes and educates students on proper nutrition and injury prevention. The combination of artistic direction and the students’ love of dance make Balletmore shows quite engaging and entertaining. Children will enjoy seeing the creative expression of other kids when student dancers perform. The 60-minute show length also works well for families with very young children.
